The Douro region is the oldest demarcated wine region in the world, covering an area of about 250.000 hectares.
It was demarcated in 1756 by the Marquis of Pombal, in order to ensure the quality and authenticity of the wines of this region.
In 2001 UNESCO, recognizing the extraordinary value of the region, considered the Alto Douro Wine Region as World Heritage Site, thereby rewarding this unique wine region!
